One Million Moms is warning Christian parents about a new Disney series centered on teenage witches and warlocks, arguing that the show presents occult themes as entertainment for young viewers.

“Coven Academy,” a supernatural teen drama, is scheduled to premiere Oct. 1 on Freeform, with the season beginning to stream the following day on Disney+, Hulu and Freeform on Demand.

The series is set in New Orleans and follows three teenage witches and their warlock classmates at an elite school for magic. According to Disney, the students navigate dangerous secrets, supernatural conflicts and forbidden romances while trying to protect themselves and the city.

But One Million Moms, a conservative advocacy group, says those themes should concern parents, particularly because the series is aimed at teens and younger viewers.

In an online alert, the organization accused Disney of continuing to promote “witches, warlocks, sorcery, and secular values” to children and teenagers. The group also pointed to the show’s trailer, which includes witchcraft, vampires, teen romance and what it describes as a “witch sisterhood” theme.

One Million Moms cited Deuteronomy 18:10-11 and Isaiah 8:19-22 in its warning, noting that Scripture cautions against witchcraft, divination and consulting mediums.

The organization is now asking supporters to pledge that they “will not support Disney or ‘Coven Academy’” and to share its concerns with other parents.

Disney describes the show as a fast-paced supernatural drama in which the consequences can be severe. At the academy, the company says, “a secret exposed can prove fatal” and a romance can cost a student everything.

The cast includes Malina Pauli Weissman as Briar, a New Yorker who discovers she is a witch; Malachi Barton as Jake, a warlock; Jordan Leftwich as Sasha, a student who can read minds; and Ora Duplass as Tegan, a witch who can manipulate time.

Tiffani Thiessen plays Miss Graves, the head of the academy, while “Final Destination” and “Chucky” actor Devon Sawa guest stars as a warlock professor.

The series was created by Tim Federle, whose previous work includes “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.” It is produced by Federle’s Chorus Boy Productions in association with Disney Kids & Family.

“Coven Academy” was reportedly originally intended for Disney Channel before being moved to Freeform ahead of its premiere.

For Christian families, One Million Moms argues the series raises a larger question about how supernatural and occult themes are presented to young audiences. The group is urging parents to research the program before allowing their children to watch and to consider whether its portrayal of witchcraft aligns with their family’s biblical beliefs.
