Country music superstar Morgan Wallen gave fans something more than a hit-filled performance during his recent stadium concert — he also made a quiet but noticeable statement about his Christian faith.

During his show Saturday at Clemson University’s Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina, the 33-year-old singer took the stage wearing a black cast on his leg, with the Bible verse “Joshua 2:21” prominently written in white lettering. Photos and videos shared across social media quickly drew attention from fans who recognized the scripture reference.

Joshua 2:21 reads, “And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet cord in the window” (KJV).

The verse comes from the Old Testament account of Rahab, who hid two Israelite spies before the Israelites captured Jericho. After the spies promised to spare her family, Rahab tied a scarlet cord in her window as a sign of their covenant. According to Bible Hub’s commentary, Christians have long viewed the scarlet cord as a symbol of faith, redemption and God’s protection, with many seeing it as a foreshadowing of Christ’s sacrificial death that brings salvation.

While Wallen did not publicly explain why he chose that specific verse, it is far from the first time he has spoken openly about his faith.

The Grammy-nominated artist is the son of Southern Baptist pastor Tommy Wallen and elementary school teacher Lesli Wallen. He grew up singing in church before finding success as one of country music’s biggest stars.

Earlier this year, Wallen shared that he intentionally looks for opportunities to incorporate biblical themes into his music.

“As a Christian, I think anytime that I can throw a little hint of that in my music, I’m always all for it,” he said during an April 2025 Spotify interview ahead of the release of his collaboration with Post Malone, “I Ain’t Comin’ Back,” according to Taste of Country.

Faith has appeared throughout Wallen’s catalog in songs such as “Don’t Think Jesus,” which he released on Good Friday in 2022, along with tracks including “I Wrote the Book,” “Devil Don’t Know,” “In the Bible,” “Thought You Should Know,” and “Genesis.”

Others have also spoken about Wallen’s faith behind the scenes. During a December 2025 episode of his podcast This Past Weekend, comedian Theo Von revealed that he participates in a Bible study with the country singer, describing Wallen as “an inspiring guy” and “authentic.”

Wallen has also expressed his faith through acts of service. After Hurricane Helene devastated parts of Appalachia in 2024, he visited flood victims in his native East Tennessee, helped organize a food drive and donated $500,000 toward relief efforts. He also wrote Psalm 40:2 on the exposed studs of a storm-damaged home as its owners began rebuilding.

In the aftermath of the 2018 mass shooting at Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, California, Wallen said his faith helped shape his perspective on tragedy.

“I believe in God. I believe that He’s real and I believe He has control over a lot of things,” he told Taste of Country. “Hopefully, we can get something figured out.”

For many fans, the scripture reference written across Wallen’s cast served as another reminder that, even on one of country music’s biggest stages, he remains willing to point people toward his Christian faith.
