Actress Candace Cameron Bure is celebrating what she calls a powerful and historic moment of faith unfolding in the nation’s capital, as hundreds gather to read scripture aloud in a public display of unity and devotion.
Speaking to Fox News during the “America Reads the Bible” event in Washington, D.C., the Full House star described the gathering as “such an exciting time in history,” pointing to its unique mission of bringing Americans together around God’s Word. The seven-day event, held at the Museum of the Bible, features more than 495 Christian leaders reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation in its entirety.
“Never has this been done… in such a public platform, to join all Americans together,” Bure said. “From entertainers to government officials, to pastors, to moms and dads… it’s American people reminding ourselves of who God is in our life.”
The event also carries symbolic weight as it coincides with the celebration of America’s 250th birthday. Among those participating was President Donald Trump, who read a passage from 2 Chronicles, adding to the wide range of voices contributing to the reading.
For Bure, the significance of the moment goes beyond the scale of the event—it’s about the heart behind it. She emphasized that those participating are not coming together as perfect people, but as individuals in need of God’s grace.
“We’re a bunch of imperfect people reminding ourselves that we need to be humble, and God is a God above all else,” she said, calling it an honor to read what she described as the “holy words” of scripture.
Bure also pointed to what she sees as a growing spiritual curiosity among younger generations. She believes many in Gen Z are searching for something deeper and rediscovering faith as a source of lasting peace.
“God gives us that peace overall when we follow His ways,” she explained. “More young people are realizing that. They are having encounters with God, and it is so exciting to see.”
Her message to believers was one of encouragement and hope, rooted in the character of God as patient and loving. Reflecting on the overarching story of the Bible, Bure described it as “the greatest love story” ever told—one that continues to unfold in the lives of those who turn to Him.
“He is so patient throughout the ages… and He’s still patient with each and every one of us today, just waiting with open arms,” she said. “He calls every one of us, and all you have to do is call back to His name, and He’s there.”
As voices from across the country continue reading scripture in the heart of Washington, Bure sees more than just an event—she sees a reminder of faith, humility, and the enduring truth that God’s Word still speaks powerfully into the lives of everyday Americans.
