For actress Nicole Kidman, preparing for one of Hollywood’s biggest nights doesn’t just involve gowns, rehearsals, and red carpets. It also includes something far quieter: going to church.

The Oscar-winning actress revealed that attending church on Sunday morning is an important part of her preparation for major events, such as the Academy Awards. Speaking with Variety during a pre-Oscars dinner at the Polo Lounge in Beverly Hills, Kidman explained that the practice helps ground her before the excitement of the evening begins.

“This is crazy, but I will go to church in the morning,” Kidman said ahead of the 2026 Oscars. “We’ll be squeezing it in. … It just centers me. It’s what I do on a Sunday.”

Later that evening, Kidman appeared onstage at the 98th Academy Awards alongside her Moulin Rouge! co-star Ewan McGregor. The pair reunited to present the Best Picture award while celebrating the 25th anniversary of the beloved 2001 musical directed by Baz Luhrmann.

But despite the glitz of Hollywood’s biggest awards ceremony, Kidman made it clear that her personal routine remains simple and grounded in faith.

Kidman attended the pre-Oscars dinner with her two daughters, Faith, 15, and Sunday, 17, whom she shares with her husband, country music star Keith Urban. The actress also has two older children, Bella and Connor, whom she adopted during her previous marriage to actor Tom Cruise.

Even on a night as glamorous as the Oscars, Kidman said family life still comes first. When asked if her daughters would attend any of the star-studded after-parties following the ceremony, she offered a refreshingly down-to-earth answer.

“No, it’s a Sunday night,” she said. “They’re on spring break, but we’ll all be sort of just tucking ourselves in, go home, have a bath and go to bed.”

Kidman has spoken openly about her faith on several occasions over the years. Raised in an Irish Catholic family, she credits her upbringing — particularly her grandmother’s influence — with shaping her spiritual outlook.

“I had a very Catholic grandmother, and I was raised praying, so that had [a] massive impact,” Kidman said in a 2019 interview with Vanity Fair. At the time, she noted that attending church remained a regular part of family life with Urban and their children.

“That’s how we are raising our children,” she explained. “Keith has his own beliefs, but he comes, too.”

Kidman has also shared that faith has been part of her life since childhood. In a 2018 interview with Allure, the actress revealed she once seriously considered becoming a nun.

“I’m spiritual in the sense that I absolutely believe in God,” she said. “I loved the idea of being a nun. Obviously, I did not choose to go that path, but I was very drawn to it.”

She still honors that spiritual heritage today, often wearing a diamond-studded crucifix necklace that belonged to her grandmother — a piece of jewelry she rarely takes off.

While Kidman acknowledges that her faith doesn’t come without questions or personal reflection, she says it remains an important foundation in her life.

“There’s constant questioning — I’m a willful, feisty girl,” she once said. “For me, it’s very important that I don’t have judgment.”

And even amid the glamour and pressure of Hollywood’s biggest night, Kidman says the quiet act of worship on Sunday morning continues to help her stay centered.
