New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields is known for his speed, athleticism, and leadership on the football field. But the young NFL star says his biggest dream may not involve touchdowns or championships. Instead, he hopes to serve God one day by becoming a missionary.

Speaking recently on “The Walk” podcast, Fields shared that once his football career comes to an end, he would love to travel the world sharing the message of Jesus.

“I think I want to be a missionary,” Fields said. “I think I want to go to different countries, go to different places and be able to spread His word and just help people find Christ and help people just get that relationship started with Him.”

The quarterback revealed that the idea isn’t just a passing thought. In fact, he’s already discussing possible mission opportunities with friends and exploring where God might lead him.

“You know, I’ve actually been talking to a few friends, and I’m going to try to go somewhere, whether it’s somewhere in Africa or just somewhere where people haven’t necessarily gotten the opportunity to build that relationship, or even get that relationship started,” Fields explained.

For Fields, the desire to pursue missionary work comes from a deeper passion for serving others. He says helping people and blessing others has always been close to his heart.

“So I think that’s what I’m going to pursue,” he said. “But as I said earlier, I love just helping people out. I love being a servant to others and being able to bless others. So I think I’m going to get into a field of that. I’m just not sure exactly what it’s going to be yet, but somewhere in that field.”

Even now, Fields is already putting that servant mindset into action through the Justin Fields Foundation. The organization focuses on strengthening communities through grantmaking and partnerships that support youth empowerment, education, health, wellness, and leadership development.

His faith has also grown significantly in recent years. Fields shared that he only recently became serious about reading the Bible—something he now says he wishes he had started much earlier.

“I would say I just kind of got like this just the past six months,” Fields said during an interview last year. “I’m glad I’ve grown out of that stage, and I’m glad that the only approval I need is from my teammates, my coaches and God, ultimately.”

Since making scripture a daily habit, Fields says it has transformed the way he approaches life.

“I’m being real—there’s some great lines and great wisdom that I didn’t even know of,” he said. “I’m low-key addicted to getting in my Bible each and every day just because I learn something new every day and I’m able to apply it in my everyday life.”

Fields even encourages others who are new to reading the Bible to start with the book of Proverbs before exploring more Scripture.

While his NFL journey is still unfolding, Fields’ long-term vision is clear: using his platform—and eventually his life after football—to point people toward Christ and serve others around the world.

Update: Since publication, Justin Fields has been traded to the Kansas City Chiefs.
