In a recent appearance on “The Walk” podcast, Awaka shared how his spiritual search began with an intense curiosity. “I researched every religion. So Buddhism, Confucianism, Mormonism, Islam and Hinduism. Like I went down a crazy rabbit hole,” he said. “But, yeah, eventually I landed on Jesus Christ.”

For Awaka, the decision wasn’t rooted in intellectual debate alone—it was something he felt deeply. “I don’t think I, at that time, had sort of the intellectual, theological capacity to explain it,” he admitted. “But I knew kind of in my heart, like, yeah, this is the right direction.”

That conviction led him to dive deeper into Scripture. Determined to understand his faith more fully, Awaka read the Bible from beginning to end—an experience that left a lasting impression. “Honestly, when I read through the whole Bible, I was shocked,” he said. “You get into Paul’s letters, and that stuff is super intense. You read James, and it’s like a jab at the heart.”

As his understanding grew, so did his belief that faith in Christ is essential. “I think we need Christ because, without Him, we’re all dead. There is no life after this for us,” Awaka said. “Christ is showing Himself to be the truth and the one and only.”

He also described how following Jesus reshaped his identity and purpose. “When you begin to follow Christ, your life starts to morph into the best it could possibly be… He’s leading you to the fullest version of yourself,” he explained. “He gives you a true identity… and a meaning for life that transcends anything that we could think of.”

Awaka’s testimony comes during a standout season for Arizona, a No. 1 seed in the 2026 NCAA tournament. The Wildcats have battled their way through a competitive field and now reach the Final Four after a decisive win over Purdue—an achievement that has energized fans and elevated the team’s national profile.

Yet even in the midst of March Madness excitement, Awaka’s story serves as a reminder that some victories happen off the court. His journey reflects a deeper pursuit of truth, one that many believers can relate to—a search for meaning that ultimately finds its answer in Christ.
