Concerned Women of America (CWA) has released a new report that revealed over 40% of Netflix’s children’s content contains LGBTQ+ content. The fact that Netflix installs LGBTQ+ characters and storylines into its children programming is nothing new, as the report highlighted a clip of the show Dead End: Paranormal Park with a character identifying himself as trans to a friend. The clip went viral in October after Elon Musk shared it on X and called for parents to cancel their Netflix subscriptions. It set off a number of investigations by conservatives, particularly the conservative watchdog Libs of TikTok, finding numerous children’s programs with some form of LGBTQ+ content in them. Netflix has also been open about its intention to incorporated LGBTQ content, writing in an inclusivity report for 2025, “Netflix content has continued to show gains when it comes to LGBTQ+ representation over the past 6 years. The number of stories without an LGBTQ+ character has continued to decline.”

CWA found that 41% of Netflix’s G-rated and TV-Y7 programming for children contained some form of LGBTQ+ content. The study also found that amongst all age categories (TV-G, TV-Y, and TV-Y7), 33% contained LGBTQ+ characters, themes, storylines, or messaging. The show also installs gay and trans storylines in rebooted series where such content was not in the original, such as The Magic School Bus: The Magic School Bus Rides Again, She-Ra (which includes the main character She-Ra sharing a on-screen kiss with her series antagonist, Catra), Power Rangers, and Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City. The report broke down LGBTQ content in three categories: “explicit” (clearly identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, or nonbinary), “implied” (non-primary characters or ‘queer-coded’ characters), and “meta” (gay families or participants in reality programming). Twenty-four percent of the LGBTQ content for TV-Y7 programming was rated explicit.

What makes the push significant is that only around 10% of the population identifies as either gay, trans, or nonbinary, so 41% gives an inflated sense of its prevalence. That inflation seems to have impacted younger generations, with those in Gen Z who identify as trans, nonbinary or gay surging from 11% in 2017 to 20% in 2023. “Netflix’s anti-child, anti-family agenda has finally been exposed – its children’s programming has been infiltrated by adult preoccupations with sexual preferences and gender identity,” said Penny Nance, CEO and President, Concerned Women for America. “Our new report reveals that children’s programming is not exempt from identity politics – a drastic departure from its historical role. We knew that Netflix aired this kind of programming, but our study quantifies how many children’s programs are subverted by LGBTQ messaging and themes. These are shocking numbers and most parents are unaware.”

The report is even more concerning given that Netflix is in the process of trying to buy Warner Brothers/ Discovery. That could give Netflix control over properties like Harry Potter, DC, and Looney Toons. “The seriousness of Netflix gaining dictatorial control over the entertainment industry cannot be overstated. Netflix belongs to an ideological community which explicitly endeavors to normalize and affirm same-sex attraction and sexual identity confusion by introducing LGBT content to children,” warned Emily Washburn, writing for Daily Citizen. Nance stated it should be up to parents to decide when and how to address issues like gender expression and sexual orientation. “Those conversations should take place only when the parent deems it necessary and developmentally appropriate,” she emphasized. “No parent wants to be forced to have a conversation about adult sexual preferences or gender identity with their child because of a cartoon.”
