Tributes continue to pour in for slain Christian conservative Charlie Kirk, with the “Dukes of Hazzard’s” John Schneider memorializing Kirk in his song, “Charlie’s Words.” Schneider described it as an anthem to Kirk, pledging to donate all proceeds from the song to Kirk’s Turning Point USA. Schneider said he was inspired to write the song after people began celebrating Kirk’s assassination on September 10. “”What first moved me was the ignorance of the people who don’t seem to understand or did not seem to understand that this man was giving voice to people. A lot people get it, a lot of people love him, but I’m just amazed at the anger and the hatred I’m seeing out there,” he told Fox News. “I knew about Charlie, absolutely, my God, what an outspoken, amazing guy that I’d like to say, he went up there and said, ‘Change my mind. You know, if you’re going to bring something other than a participation award to this debate.’”

The song focuses on Kirk’s attempts to open up dialogue between differing viewpoints, saying, “Charlie’s words broke through the barricades / Charlie’s words cut through the dark / Charlie’s words gave silenced people a purpose and a spark / He spoke of me, he spoke of you / He spoke of them and us and we.” Schneider also included words from Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, including the phrase “They have no idea what they’ve done.” “They have called into action legions of otherwise sleeping people of faith,” said Schneider. “And this doesn’t mean they’re going to go out and get sticks and rocks. They are going to go and bring their A game to debate. They will bring their A game to church. They’re going to bring their A game to local politics. They’re going to bring their A game everywhere.”

He called Kirk’s untimely death “tragic” and that he wants the song to serve as a “battle cry.” “I think we’ve already been called to action. I think this song is certainly a tribute to a wonderful guy. It’s a song for those who’ve already been called to action. So now it’s kind of a battle cry,” he said. He also called on Christians to take a stand. “We have to get off the fence. We can just sit on the fence anymore and watch Charlie fight our battles. It’s our turn.”
