Davis Mallory, best known for his appearances on MTV’s The Real World: Denver and The Challenge, is opening up about a powerful transformation in his life. The 42-year-old reality star and singer recently shared that he no longer identifies as gay, crediting his deliverance to God’s hand at work in his life.
In a video posted on Instagram, Mallory shared his testimony while speaking at the Arise House of Prayer and Worship in Hawaii. With conviction in his voice, he declared, “I lived the gay lifestyle for about 20 years. I was on a television show, The Real World, and I came out on the show as a gay Christian, but God really pulled me out of that lifestyle a year ago.”
As the audience applauded, he added, “Praise God. He started speaking to me in my dreams and showing me the spiritual warfare that I was going through.” Mallory explained that he would often have vivid nightmares symbolizing the consequences of sin. “Every time I returned to sin, I would have a nightmare that my car was being broken into, or that my car was sliding backwards. He was just showing me these really strong visual images of what sin was doing in my life.”
Following his testimony, Mallory performed his worship song Baptized, thanking the congregation for allowing him to share both his music and his story.

On Instagram, Mallory continued to speak candidly about his faith journey. Posting a screenshot from his Notes app, he wrote, “I feel like God gave me this vision that us being righteous and following the law is His perfect plan for us. Sinning in any way is not His plan for us and is not us honoring His design for how He made us.”

When one follower asked directly if he still identifies as gay, Mallory responded with honesty and nuance: “Do I find men beautiful? Yes, of course. Do I find women beautiful? Yes, of course. We are created in God’s image and in His likeness. The beauty of creation gives glory to the Creator.” Pressed further, Mallory clarified, “To answer your question directly, then NO & NO,” making clear that he no longer pursues same-sex attraction or relationships.
Mallory explained that his transformation did not come through conversion therapy but rather through God’s healing and revelation. “God started giving me vivid dreams and healed me from trauma and showed me the spiritual warfare I was under,” he wrote.
Mallory first stepped into the public eye in 2006 on The Real World: Denver, where he came out as a gay Christian. Over the years, he became known for competing on The Challenge and later pursued a career as a singer-songwriter.
In a 2018 essay for Out Magazine, he reflected on how his time on television allowed him to be a role model for others struggling with sexuality and faith. But today, his story has taken a new turn, one he says is authored by God.
As he now testifies, his life reminds us that no matter how long someone has walked a certain path, God’s power to redeem and redirect remains greater. Mallory’s journey reflects the hope of transformation found in Christ—the same hope available to anyone willing to surrender their life to Him.
