The Washington Commanders are headed to the NFC Championship game after a big upset against the number one ranked Detroit Lions. The Lions lost only two games during the regular season and were favored to win against the Commanders, but the team’s defense couldn’t suppress a dominating Commanders’ offense, led by rookie quarterback, Jayden Daniels. The win means the team will be heading to its first NFC Championship game in 33 years.
In an on-field interview about the team’s big win, Daniels credited the team’s shared faith in God. “Man, it just starts with our faith in God. As a team, we believe. We believe in each other; we believe in the Man upstairs,” he said. He acknowledged, however, that the team’s work wasn’t done. “We are going to go out there, we are going to fight; we prepared the right way. We put in the work to get to this point now. We got … a couple of more games left. We will see who we are playing tomorrow. I just love this team.” Daniels had an impressive game against the Lions, passing for 299 yards, completing two passing touchdowns, and going for 51 rushing yards in a decisive 45-31 victory. Daniels’ calm demeanor as a rookie facing an extreme amount of pressure, has impressed most NFL insiders. When asked about what helps to keep him cool under pressure after the team’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Daniels credited God. “Trust in the Lord God. There’s nothing I should worry about, man. Put all my worries on Him. He’ll take care of the rest.”
The team will face the Eagles for the NFC Championship game. The teams faced each other twice in the regular season, with the Eagles winning 26-18 in their first faceoff, while the Commanders won the second faceoff 36-33. The Eagles are known for their dominant defense, but the Commanders’ explosive offense may just have what it takes to get the win. The NFC Championship game between the Eagles and the Commanders will take place on Sunday, January 26. The winner will take on either the dominant Kansas City Chiefs or the Buffalo Bills at the Super Bowl on February 9.
