Actor Mario Lopez recently posted an encouraging message of faith in honor of Palm Sunday. He captioned an Instagram post, “God’s love is everlasting, not a trend.” The post contained a block of text that read, “Baby, we believe in God around here. I don’t care what’s trending these days.” Lopez often talks about his Christian faith and how he is an outlier in the entertainment industry because of it.

He explained, “[Faith] is alive in me. It’s not really as prevalent  [in Hollywood] as I think it should be. If you don’t think necessarily the way the left does entirely — they don’t embrace diverse thought, so it’s unfortunate.” Lopez added that there are some who view faith as “important” but said, “It’s just not as embraced as you think it would be.”

These days, he is partnering his strong faith with his work in the entertainment industry. Earlier this year, it was announced that Lopez was joining the Great American Media family in a multi-year, multi-picture deal. Lopez said in a statement about the deal, “Throughout my career, I’ve aimed to create a body of work that appeals to diverse audiences and, above all, brings joy to people. Joining Great American Media is immensely fulfilling. I look forward to creating uplifting, inclusive, and diverse content, viewed through a positive lens for all ages.”

Lopez continued, “At this stage in my life, family is the most important thing to me. Being able to share family-friendly stories representing diverse voices is a true blessing.” Movieguide previously discussed his efforts to make family-friendly content. The TV host and actor has plans to create a new family comedy series called “Expanding the Universe of Ashley Garcia” for Netflix.

The premise of the show centers on Ashley, played by Paulina Chavez, a 15-year-old rocket scientist and robotics engineer who receives a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work for NASA. Ashley must move across the country to do so and live with her uncle, who’s a pro football player turned high school coach (played by Jencarlos Canela of “Telenovela.”

Lopez expressed his optimism about the series to Variety, “I am excited for the opportunity to partner with Netflix to tell a universal, family-friendly story with a Latin flavor!”
