Chance the Rapper and his wife Kristen Corley have called it quits after 5 years of marriage. The pair announced the news on their Instagram Stories, saying they had privately been separated for some time. “After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways,” the pair wrote. “We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together. We kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate this transition. Thank you,” the note, signed “Chance & Kirsten,” concluded. The pair share two daughters together: Kensli, 7, and Marli, 4.

The announcement comes nearly one year after fans speculated that the rapper, whose real name is Chancelor Johnathan Bennett, and the influencer were experiencing trouble within their marriage. The rumors sparked after Chance spent his 30th birthday in Jamaica last April where a video went viral of the rapper dancing with another woman. After the video spread online, Corley shared a Maya Angelou quote on Instagram about people struggling to grow up.

Chance and Corley tied the knot in March 2019 after knowing each other since childhood. The pair crossed paths as children, but didn’t properly connect until 2012 when they met again at South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas. They quickly began dating and moved back to their hometown of Chicago. They welcomed their first daughter, Kensli, in 2015. After six years of dating, they got engaged and tied the knot one year later in Newport Beach, California. Their wedding included guests such as Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and Dave Chappelle. Months after their wedding, they welcomed their second daughter, Marli, in August 2019. In 2020, Chance spoke with People about how grateful he was to be raising his children with Corley. “I’ve been waking up daily with a newfound gratitude and being very grateful that I’m married right now. The fact that me, my daughters and my wife all live in one house together is a huge, huge blessing, so I’ve just been taking that in.”
