Los Angeles Clippers player Russell Westbrook gave God the glory after securing his 25,000th career point. He shared on social media, “I might not be perfect, but God is! I might not be able, but God is! And I’m with Him! So why not dream?”
Westbrook’s motto is “Why Not?” and he created the brand Honor the Gift, which promotes “self-belief and dedication to never stop working towards your greatness no matter the hardship. Representing a personal promise to Honor the Gift He has given you.” The athlete has not shied away from his faith. In 2017, Westbrook was voted the NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Per Sports Spectrum, “He averaged 31.6 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 10.4 assists per game, becoming the first player since Oscar Robertson to average a triple-double for an entire season.” During his acceptance speech, Westbrook teared up as he thanked God. He began, “First and foremost, thank you to the man above. Without His blessing, without His honor, I wouldn’t be standing here today. I am very, very blessed to be in the position I am today.”

He also cares about his teammates because he knows he can’t play alone. “These are my brothers…they sacrificed so much for me throughout the year. It was obviously an amazing season for me, but without these guys and the rest of our guys who aren’t here, none of this would be possible,” Westbrook said as he brought several teammates on stage with him.
He said of the achievement, “This award is not for me. This award is for all these guys, and I am very, very thankful to have you guys in my corner.” Westbrook also became just the third player ever to record 20 triple-doubles in one season. “I’m just thankful. Nobody gets the praise but the man above.”
