The 66th Annual Grammys concluded on Sunday and Christian rapper Lecrae won big, taking home two awards. Lecrae, 44, bagged the award for Best Contemporary Christian Album for his album, Church Clothes 4, and best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for his song “Your Power” featuring Tasha Cobb. Lecrae has two other Grammy wins under his belt from 2013 and 2015, but this is the first time he has taken home the award for best Contemporary Christian Album. Lecrae’s Church Clothes beat out other albums by artists such as Phil Wickham and Lauren Daigle.

Accepting his award with his daughter for “Your Power,” he admonished the crowd to “impact the world.” “The imprint of God is on each and every one of you all’s lives,” he said. “Whether you take home an award or not, ‘you are fearfully and wonderfully made.’ And you made this music not to win an award, but to impact the world with the gift that God has put in you. Never forget that,” he added. When Lecrae appeared on stage to accept his award for Church Clothes, he gave credit to God. “I don’t even have words at this point and time. At the end of the day, so many people put so much hard work into this music, into this project,” he said. He thanked “every single soul who touched this project, everybody who listened to it, enjoyed it.”  He then added that “like I said before, I have to give credit to the Lord Jesus for just being my all in all in everything, to allow me to speak the words that I have in art.”

The rapper also took to social media after the win to acknowledge his excitement. “I haven’t fully processed it all yet. I’m grateful but it’s really something beyond my understanding,” he wrote. “I just wanted to be the father I never had and give my kids experiences. God is beyond kind. Once I have more words I’ll share but for now… Thank you God for being gracious. Thank you Jesus for allowing me to be a part of your kingdom and using broken instruments to play healing music.” Lecrae has been very open about his experiences being raised by a single mother after his mom escaped his abusive father. The lack of a father caused behavioral issues in the young Lecrae and an empty ache in his heart. “Underneath all of my pain and misbehavior was a sense of emptiness. After my mom and I escaped my dad’s instability, he decided to stay gone and stay away. And the hole left by my father’s absence throbbed constantly like an open wound that refused to scab over,” he wrote in 2016. Today, Lecrae has three children and resides in Atlanta with his wife, Darragh Moore.
