Simone Biles and her husband Jonathan Owens, safety for the Green Bay Packers, recently appeared on an episode of the podcast “The Pivot” where they recounted the story of how they first met. It landed Owens in hot water after he admitted he didn’t know who Biles, who was recently named the most decorated gymnast of all time, was at first.
After the pair matched on the celebrity dating app, Raya, in 2020, Biles admitted that she was the one to reach out to Owens first. Biles reached out to Owens via Instagram DM’s where he took notice of her Instagram following. “I’m like, ‘Lemme see who this is.’ I never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my curiosity,” said the NFL player. The first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of [Instagram] followers. So in my mind I’m like, ‘Okay, she’s gotta be good.'” When asked how it was possible that Owen’s didn’t know who Biles was, Owens said, “When she won the Olympics, I was in college and we didn’t have NBC, we didn’t have Olympics channels, and we were in [training] camp [in] late July, early August. So I’m not paying attention. I never would’ve had a moment where I would’ve watched [her compete].”

The pair tied the knot on April 23, 2022 at the Harris County courthouse in Houston. A few weeks later, they hosted a wedding celebration in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
When asked whether he is the “catch” in his relationship with Biles, Owens said, “I always say that the men are the catch.” Many people criticized Owens for his comments on his relationship with Biles. It even resulted in a TikTok trend where someone is asked “Do you know who Simone Biles is?” where the response is usually “Of course!” or “How could you not know who she is?” and then the question of “Do you know who her husband is?” as the follow-up question. Many people responded with “She’s married?” or ” He’s famous too?” insinuating that he is not nearly as popular as the Olympian.
Owens is seemingly unbothered after he shared a photo of him and Biles to his Instagram with the caption, “Unbothered ?❤️ Just know we locked in over here ??.” Biles commented on the post saying, “??? for life,”
