America is known for it’s interest in all things haunted, but have you ever wondered which state is the most haunted? With 43 percent of Americans believing in demons and 41 percent believing in ghosts, there have been many reports of sightings and paranormal experiences around the country. According to research by BonusFinder.com, Texas takes the spot as the most haunted state in America. The research analyzed the amount of cemeteries, reported ghost sightings, haunted locations, and the amount of paranormal investigators in the state. Texas has 13,710 cemeteries, which is equivalent to 451.8 cemeteries per 100,000 residents. Texas has the highest overall number of ghost sightings with 7,517 and the highest number of haunted locations per 100,000 people (30.5). Texas also has 5.21 paranormal investigators per 100,000 people, which gives Texas a haunted city score of 9.8/10. One of the most haunted placed in Texas is the Driskill Hotel in Austin where many people have reported hearing strange sounds, encountered ghost-like figures and experienced unexplained phenomena in many parts of the hotel.

Maine takes the second most haunted state in America spot where their haunted city score is 9.0/10. Maine has 4,120 cemeteries, which is about 300.2 cemeteries per 100,000 residents. 800 people have reported ghost sightings and the state counts 168 haunted locations, which is 12.2 people per 100,000. The S.K. Pierce Mansion, located in Gardner, Maine, is a famous haunted mansion in the U.S. where many individuals claim to have seen the spirit of Sylvester K. Pierce. Some people claim they have witnessed disembodied voices, whispers, footsteps, doors creaking, unexplained drops in temperature and moving objects.

Florida and Vermont are tied at third place for most haunted stated in America. Vermont is among the states with the highest number of haunted locations while Florida is among the states with the highest number of ghost sightings. New Jersey comes in last place as the least haunted state in America with a score of 0.8/10. Arizona and Nevada follow behind as the least haunted states with Arizona having a score of 0.9/10 and Nevada having a score of 1/10.
