Kickers and brothers Daniel and Anders Carlson recently made history when Daniel’s Raiders faced off against Anders’ Green Bay Packers. According to Spectrum, Daniel and Anders played the same position in the same NFL football game for the first time.

Anders is a perfect seven-for-seven and 10-for-10 on extra points in five games. Meanwhile, Daniel is five for seven on field goals and eight-for-eight on points after touchdowns. Both brothers are outspoken and professing Christians despite having a shared career in professional football. Anders describes himself as a “Believer” on Instagram and typically captions his posts with references to God or Bible verses. On X, Daniel’s bio includes the Bible verse Proverbs 3:5-6, which reads, “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

The Carlson brothers, originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado, were raised in the faith by their parents, Jodie and Hans. In a 2018 interview, Daniel said, “It is such a cool, surreal experience to look back on all that God has given me. Playing is my form of worship. It is how I glorify Him. And all of this is so much better than I ever expected.” This past May, he told the Colorado Springs Gazette that his identity is found in God over football.

He told the outlet, “I think the biggest thing for me is just knowing my identity. I think for me, faith is a really big thing. My current thing I’m doing is football, but that’s not who I am. I’m just focused on the things I can control, but knowing my identity is not in football, it’s in God.” In their most recent games, Anders and his Green Bay Packers lost to the Denver Broncos, while Daniel’s Raiders lost to the New England Patriots.

Both brothers attended Auburn, and now that they’re in the NFL, they’ve learned a lot from the same coach: Rich Bisaccia. Bisaccia is now the Packers special teams coordinator, but he spent four seasons with Daniel in Las Vegas as the Raiders’ special teams coach (and he was even the team’s interim head coach for a brief stint). “They’re both really good players, and they’re both playing well right now, so it should be great for their family,” Bisaccia said via Madison.com. “Hopefully, it’s better for us.”

The most recent brothers to kick in the NFL simultaneously would be the Gramaticas. Martin spent 10 seasons in the NFL (1999-2008) while his brother Bill was in the league for four years (2001-04). The Raiders won the game, but hopefully, it won’t be the last time these brothers face off on the field.
