An actor known for mainstream roles in TV shows and movies like “Walker” and “We Bought a Zoo” recently discussed his Christian faith. Colin Ford told Christian Headlines that he usually shares Philippians 4:13 while working on set, a passage he also displays in his Instagram bio.

He told the outlet, “Philippians 4:13 is one of my favorite verses, ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ For me, those are, like, my power words. Whenever I’m feeling anxious or down, I say those words to myself, and I remind myself that God is with me at all times.” Ford said this verse helps provide comfort in life’s challenging times, forcing the emotions that come with tough times to “disappear.”

Perhaps most interesting, according to Christian Headlines, is that this same passage is also referenced in Ford’s new film, “The Hill,” which hits theaters on August 25. The film is about real-life baseball player Rickey Hill, who overcame a disability to become a Major League Baseball player. The actor said the verse was in his Instagram bio well before he even read the script, but its presence offered confirmation.

He said, “It was kind of that moment, where I was like, ‘This is me. This movie is me. I have to be Ricky, I have to do it. There’s nothing that’s gonna stop me from doing this film,'” adding he felt there was a divine intervention underway. The performer also shared how he, at one point, moved away from his faith as a teen but later came back and now seeks to live a Christian life.

The actor, who also recently starred in “A Thousand Tomorrows” on Pure Flix, told Beliefnet earlier this year that he turns to prayer and asks God for direction in his career and life. Ford said, “Ironically, the night before I got the offer for …[‘A Thousand Tomorrows’] I was just kind of praying, asking for direction in my career and in my life,” Ford said. “And the very next day, I got the offer for ‘A Thousand Tomorrows.'”

He added, “So, it kinda felt like it was the right thing to do. I felt like I was in the right place at the right time.” As for “The Hill,” the film tells the former MLB player’s harrowing, real-life journey. A synopsis of the film reads, “Born in Fort Worth, Texas, to a poor Baptist preacher, Rickey Hill’s life was a symphony of trials. Despite adversity, from poverty, bullying due to the braces on his legs, and balancing expectations and dreams, Rickey’s relentless pursuit of his passion in baseball made him one of the greatest hitters the game has ever seen.”
