Tom Hanks perfectly channels beloved childhood icon Fred Rogers in the newly released trailer for ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.’ The actor has some big shoes to fill, but from this first look it’s clear that he is the perfect choice for this role of a lifetime. The trailer begins with Hanks singing the opening theme song to “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” one of the longest-running programs in television history, perfectly capturing Rogers’ gentle nature and demeanor.

Based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod, ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism. After Junod, a jaded magazine editor (played by Matthew Rhys in the film) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.

Keep an eye on this one – we could have an awards contender on our hands. The film is set to release in theaters November 22.
