Known for his oversexualized lyrics and playboy image, the singer Robin Thicke is not typically the ideal star for Christian’s to look up to. However Thicke is changing his tune with his new single “Testify”.

His father’s abrupt passing and his girlfriend’s miscarriage, which she made public earlier in 2018, were the inspiration for his new song.

“Well, it’s funny — my father passed away a couple of years ago and I thought I had an album and these songs that I wanted to put out. Then when that happened, it was something I wasn’t expecting and it just rattled my soul,” Thick told People in a recent interview.

“So I took some time to re-think the album and then these songs started pouring out that had more meaning and more weight to them.”

The singer’s father, Alan Thicke, who was known for his role in the 1980s sitcom “Growing Pains,” died of a heart attack in 2016. He was 69 years old.

Then in August, Thicke’s 24-year-old girlfriend, model April Love Geary, revealed she had a miscarriage before giving birth to the couple’s daughter, Mia Love. The duo is now expecting their second child.

“Once you put it into song form, then it can live forever. And so the message in the song is really about the hope and the light at the end of that tunnel when you feel that you lost or you feel that you don’t know what to do next.”

While Thicke’s new song and comments about God are very broad, it shows that he is on the right path. Choosing to let his grief lead him back to the faith, as opposed to pushing him further away from it, is hard for many Christians to do.

He added, “You know, that reconnection to God or spirituality or something deeper than the surface is what brings you back home to who you really are and who you want to be.”
