Mickey Rooney, born as Joseph Yule Jr, passed away April 6, 2014 at the age of 93. Rooney was a well-known actor and entertainer. He has one of the longest careers of any actor, spanning over 92 years. Rooney began as a child actor and was making films for ten decades – from 1920 – 2010. Until his death, Rooney was one of the last surviving stars who worked in the silent film era.

Despite having a huge amount of success in the entertainment realm, Rooney decided in 1944 to enlist in the United States Army – where he served 21 months in World War II. After the war, Rooney returned to the limelight and acted in television and movies.

From Boys Town to the many stories behind Andy Hardy – Rooney is no stranger to Hollywood. He has helped pave the way for many actors in the film industry and will forever be remembered as a legend.
