As I’m catching up on Christian music stories I missed over the last six months or so, here’s one that definitely merits a mention: Skillet’s rock song “Awake & Alive”, from their latest album Awake, is featured on the soundtrack for the new film “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” Also featured on the soundtrack are songs from Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Mastodon, Art of Dying, Taking Back Sunday, and Black Veil Brides, plus new tracks from Paramore and The Goo Goo Dolls.

“I am a junkie for these kind of movies so to have ‘Awake & Alive’ included on the Transformers: Dark of the Moon album is one of the coolest things that we could have happen,” Skillet frontman John Cooper said in a press release.

The song was Skillet’s first No. 1 Mainstream Active Rock hit and a No. 1 at CHR and Christian Rock radio. The track was also the first No. 1 Mainstream Active Rock hit to feature female vocals in charts nearly 14-year history, and made Skillet the only Christian act to have crossed over to the Active Rock format with a No. 1 single.

“Transformers: Dark of the Moon” earned $382.4 million on its opening weekend, marking the second-largest opening of all time behind that of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” ($394.0 million) and the largest for Paramount/Dreamworks. According to the movie website BoxOfficeMojo.com, the film has garnered $645 million in sales worldwide to date.

Skillet is currently on tour this summer. You can catch them at Christian music festivals across the U.S.
