StarsGoDim.jpgChris Cleveland, front man for Stars Go Dim, has won the October SingerUniverse “Best Vocalist Of The Month” Competition.
The award was based on his performance of the group’s song, “Love Gone Mad,” from their new five-song EP. The song is also the title cut of the band’s debut album, scheduled for release in March 2009.
The groundwork for Stars Go Dim began after Pillar bassist Michael Wittig, drummer Lester Estelle, and guitarist Joey Avalos hatched a plan for a side project, based on songs Avalos had written that were too pop for the band’s hard rock sound. (All three have since left Pillar.) They called vocalist Chris Cleveland, who Avalos had met at a music showcase, and the line up was set.

This isn’t the only recognition Stars Go Dim has received. They were recently named a finalist in the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting Contest, with their song “Get Over It.” Written by Avalos, the song is “a sarcastic shot from the singer to his former girlfriend reflecting upon her the advice she once gave him-to move on and ‘get over it’.” (I don’t know if it’s based in reality or not … kinda sounds like something a snarky ex-girlfriend would say, eh?)
The song was judged by a committee of professional songwriters, artists and musicians including Carlos Santana, Tim McGraw and Wyclef Jean, among others, on the components of originality, composition, melody, and lyrics.
