Good News

There’s something eternal, yes, and thrilling about this video — at last count viewed by more than 7 million.

Some time ago, the Opera Company of Philadelphia brought together over 650 singers from community chorales, school choirs, local opera clubs — 28 different organizations — to surprise shoppers at the famed Macy’s in Philadelphia.

They strolled into the store as shoppers, then at noon burst into song, performing the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s “Messiah” to the delight of surprised shoppers.

That’s what’s so special about this video.

Yes, the singing is extraordinary. Sure, the Wanamaker Organ — the world’s largest pipe organ — is incredible.

But watch the faces of shoppers, stunned, delighted, inspired by one of the world’s most recognizable pieces of music praising the King of Kings.
