Aaron Carter, a former child pop singer and younger brother of Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter, died on Saturday, November 5, 2022. He was 34.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson told CNN they responded to a call for help at Carter’s Lancaster, California home on Saturday morning around 11 a.m. local time, where a deceased person was found at the scene. According to a source on the scene, Aaron was found dead in his bathtub. There’s been no information about a possible cause of death.

The singer’s debut studio album, “Aaron Carter,” was released in 1997, and he performed as the opening act for the Backstreet Boys earlier that year. His fifth and final album, “Love,” was released in 2018.

Carter was also known for his roles on television shows such as “Lizzie McGuire” on Disney Channel and “7th Heaven,” which debuted on The WB Television Network. He also appeared on his family’s reality series on E! Entertainment Television, “House of Carters.”

The singer opened up in 2019 in an episode of “The Doctors” about his battle with multiple mental health issues, including multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety, and manic depression. “This is my reality,” Carter said as he held up a plastic bag of multiple prescription bottles in one clip featured on the show’s Facebook page.

After the news of his death, tributes to Aaron Carter started pouring in, most notably from his older brother, Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter. In a post on Instagram Sunday, Nick wrote that despite their “complicated relationship,” his love for Carter “has never ever faded.” In a caption of pictures of Nick and Aaron throughout the years, Nick wrote, “I have always held onto the hope that he would somehow, someday, want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed. Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss. But the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here.”

Nick continued, “I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know,” he added. “I love you, Chizz; now you get a chance to finally have some peace you could never find here on earth…. God, please take care of my baby brother.”

Nick Carter’s tribute followed another by his sister, Aaron’s twin Angel, who wrote on Instagram, “To my twin… I loved you beyond measure. My funny, sweet Aaron, I have so many memories of you and I, and I promise to cherish them. I know you’re at peace now. I will carry you with me until the day I die and get to see you again.”

Aside from his siblings, those honoring Carter include Hilary Duff, who played the titular character on Disney Channel’s “Lizzie McGuire,” on which Carter once appeared as a guest star. Duff wrote on Instagram, “For Aaron – I’m deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in front of the whole world. You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent… boy did my teenage self love you deeply,” she added. “Sending love to your family at this time.”

Carter is survived by his 11-month-old son, Prince.
