This past week, 43-year-old Hollywood actor Chadwick Boseman, best known for his role in the Marvel movie “Black Panther”, died at his home in Los Angeles after his battle with colon cancer. But he’s not just being remembered for being a brilliant actor, he’s also being honored for his faith.

Boseman was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago, and it progressed to stage IV right before 2020, his family said in a statement. Boseman had not publically spoken about his battle before. During his years of treatment, Boseman continued to perform in films like “Marshall” and “Da 5 Bloods”.

In 2018, Boseman gave a powerful speech to Howard University’s graduating class. In the speech, he spoke about the importance of giving honor to our Creator. He quoted Corinthians 3:6 which says, “As the Scripture says, I planted the seed, and Apollos watered it. But God kept growing-God kept it growing.”

Other Christian stars like Chris Pratt have offered condolences on social media, and are sending prayers to Boseman’s family.

Boseman was raised in a Christian home and was baptized as a child. He was involved in the church choir and youth group growing up. Boseman’s former pastor said that he kept his faith while navigating Hollywood.

“He did a lot of positive things within the church and within the community,” Samuel Neely, his childhood pastor, said in an interview with Fox Carolina. “With him singing in the choir, with him working the youth group, he always was doing something, always helping out, always serving. That was his personality.”

Boseman is well known for testifying that he prayed relentlessly for his role in Black Panther.

“I had already written about ‘Black Panther’ in my journals as something that I wanted to do and I had written down certain things that I would like to see in a movie about Black Panther,” Boseman said in a 2017 interview with Hunger Magazine. “You pray for something and then it actually occurs, you almost can’t believe it.”
