I saw this quote in an office of a Social Worker who day in and day out faces those, who are at the end of their financial line, at the end of their hope in working to provide for their families, at the end of their faith that a different possibility was available to them, meeting each story and person with a smile in her heart.

Everyone can be great
Because everyone can serve
You don’t have to have a degree to serve
You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve
You only need a heart full of grace
A soul generated by love.

Words by Martin Luther King Jr. on a faded piece of copy paper hanging blue thumbtacked to the office cubicle wall permeate every effort that unfolds as these Angels work within the boundaries of a system pushed to its limits stretching where they can and living in a practice of humanity where everyone is treated with respect. Where the difficulties of circumstance continue to grow but who never stop believing a kind word, a practice of service and an action of love can transform someone’s life.

These symbols that live and breathe around us provide a platform of remembrance within the tenant of our days to wake up to our “heart full of grace” and enact it with those we encounter attending to them as we would to our own needs. We are not in any of this alone and must be vigilant to operating in a full practice of doing the right thing because we know in our hearts it is what is necessary, it is what is just, it is what is correct in a given situation and not because we have been told, policed, regulated or bullied.

As Maya Angelou wrote “A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.”

It is all of our job to sing our song with love and to provide an example of the purest grace of our being in giving birth in each moment to what wants to be born in ourselves and those we encounter.

This is the clearest example I could relate of what Flight of the Soul will be offering in the days and weeks to come. A little bit of love. A little bit of faith and a whole lot of inspiration.

We are all being called to action, to comfort those in need, to smile for no reason and to love beyond our current capability. Happily we have more than enough teachers, wisdom and beauty to carry us through.

Thank you in advance for your time and attention and energies in contributing to the spirit of our collective connection.

Wishing you a wonderful new day full of so much love and joy!
