A values-based competitor to Netflix continues to spread its wings. The film and TV platform Angel has announced a fresh slate of feature films and television programming to added to the Angel.com and Angel app platforms during the month of May.
May 1 – Thabo and the Rhino Case
Already up, this 2023 film tells the tale of Thabo, an eleven-year-old African boy who dreams of becoming a private detective but lives in the most peaceful village this side of paradise. Unfortunately, he gets a chance to hone his skill when a rhino is murdered in the safari park for its horn.
May 2 – Dry Bar Comedy’s Funny Friday: LeClerc Andre “Shenanigans”
Dropping today, comedian LeClerc Andre delivers a laugh-packed set about picking sides in other couple’s fights, surviving his own marriage, new parenthood, playground politics, snack-time struggles and all the ways Spirit Airlines is similar to Jerry Springer.
May 6 – The Stray
The 2017 movie tells to story of how a stray dog named Pluto arrives out of nowhere and becomes more than just a pet to the Davis family, proving that miracles sometimes come in the most unlikely forms.
May 7 – DryBar Toons
The series of brand-new animated comedy shorts series that brings the funniest moments from Dry Bar comedians to life as each episode transforms stand-up storytelling into vibrant, laugh-out-loud cartoons.
May 8 – ANGEL STUDIOS ILLUMINATE Livestream
Angel celebrates one-million Angel Guild members via a livestream event.

In 2007, a drunk driving crash shattered Chris Williams’ world, killing his wife, unborn child and two of their children. May 9 – Dry Bar Comedy’s Funny Friday: Mal Hall “The Smartest Child”
The stand-up comic talks about hygiene hazards lurking in plain sight, loving the experience of being a mixed American, realizing just how broke he was growing up and competing for $3,000 to be the first to give his mom a grandchild.
May 13 – Identity Crisis
The 2023 comedy follows a gifted but timid college science student who creates a clone to become her ideal self—fearless, flawless, and ready to conquer everything she’s afraid to face. As her double takes on life with ease, she begins to question whether perfection is something to build or something she already holds inside. Note: I spoke with one the movies producers, Alexandra Boylan, when the film was first released.
May 15 – Ride Above
The 2021 film tell a story of Zoé who, raised on her parents’ stud farm, dreams of one day becoming a jockey. She forms an unbreakable bond with a spirited young horse, and the two seem destined for racing glory—until a tragic accident derails everything. As both horse and rider face uncertain futures, they must confront challenges in a shared journey of healing and determination. Together, they fight for a second chance at victory.
May 15 – The Good Things (Season 1)
The series invites viewers to see how God‘s goodness unfolding around us in ways we may not expect.
May 16 – Dry Bar Comedy’s Funny Friday: Collin Moulton “Too Clean”
Back for his second special, Moulton dives into the dangers of being hangry, the struggle of analysis paralysis and the frustrations of dealing with technology that just can’t keep up.

May 30 – Dry Bar Comedy’s Funny Friday: Vien Phommachanh “Open Up and Say ‘Hah!!!’”
Dr. Vien Phommachanh is here to deliver a big dose of healthy laughter! As a doctor by day and a comedian by night, Dr. Phommachanh makes his Asian parents both proud and disappointed. At least his wife loves him enough to deal with his mouthful of a last name and the confusing but funny situations that come with it.
Note: Angel will also release The Last Rodeo in theaters on May 23rd. Starring and co-written by Neal McDonough, the film tells the story of a retired champion bull rider who faces a family crisis that causes him to risk everything compete in a bull riding competition as its oldest contestant ever. As the release date approaches, I’ll be posting a conversation with the award-winning actor.
