Angel Studios will release Director Alejandro Monteverde’s Cabrini in theaters on Friday, March 8th. The biopic shares the story of Francesca Cabrini (aka Mother Cabrini), an audacious Italian immigrant and Catholic nun who championed the cause of better education and healthcare for poor immigrants.

Cristiana Dell’Anna (Gomorrah) stars in the title role, leading a cast that includes John Lithgow (Killers of the Flower Moon, Third Rock from the Sun), David Morse (The Green Mile, St. Elsewhere) and Giancarlo Giannini (Quantum of Solace) as Pope Leo XIII.

Angel Studios COO Liz Ellis says “Francesca Cabrini is one of the most inspiring and influential figures in modern history, and yet few know her story. Faced with seemingly insurmountable life obstacles, Cabrini chose instead to focus on how she could change the status quo in her time and her impact on the world is still felt today.” She notes that the film received even higher ratings from the Angel Guild crowdfunding community than Sound of Freedom, the studio’s surprise summer 2023 blockbuster that was also directed by Monteverde.

Also coming from Angel Studios: Homestead. The studio has completed production on the film adaptation of the best-selling book series Black Autumn by Jeff Kirkham and Jason Ross. The saga follows the clash of two families in a post-civilization world. Following the theatrical release of the movie a television series is planned. The unusual theatrical film-as-TV pilot path was employed way back in 1997 for the NBC sci-fi series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.

Calling the film “a hope-filled, family apocalypse story” (now there’s an untapped genre), Angel Studios Co-Founder Jeffrey Harmon says “Homestead goes on a wild ride through the crash of civilization, only to reveal that family, community and love are the ultimate survival advantage. I can’t wait to watch the movie and the TV show.”
You know what? I’m kinda looking forward to it too.
