Here’s the latest from the crossroads of faith, media & culture: 02/14/22

The Case for Heaven is coming to theaters as a three-night Fathom Event (Monday, April 4-Wednesday, April 6). Start times for all three nights will be 7:00 PM local time.  The documentary is based on the book of the same name written by New York Times best-selling author Lee Strobel (who I worked for on his 2004-2005 Pax TV series Faith Under Fire). The investigative journalist and former atheist became a Christian after applying his investigative skills to issues of faith and coming to the conclusion that God is real. The documentary probes questions regarding what awaits us after death as well as the phenomena known as Near-Death Experiences. Check out the trailer below.

In the film, Strobel explores the evidence regarding the afterlife while addressing perhaps the biggest fear of all, death.  The book that inspired the film was itself inspired by the author’s own brush with death and includes interviews with well-known faith leaders such as Francis Chan, John Burke and the late Luis Palau, among others.
As Strobel puts it, “The pandemic has a lot of people pondering what happens after people close their eyes for the last time in this world…This film provides compelling evidence from both inside and outside the Bible to show that we will, indeed, continue to live on.”

Prior to The Case for Heaven, Fathom Events is releasing Man of God in theaters on Monday, March 21. The film starring Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler), Aris Servetalis (The Waiter) and Alexander Petrov (Attraction) tells the inspirational story Saint Nektarios, one of the most renowned Greek orthodox saints widely known for caring for the poor, teaching peasant girls to read and write, impactful writings and miracles. His popularity provoked the jealousy of the clergy in Alexandria, Egypt.  Check out the trailer below.
