Here’s today’s dispatch from the crossroads of faith, media and culture.

Pope Francis, Radio Star. The above video shows Catholic Channel hosts Lino Rulli (The Catholic Guy) and Fr. Dave Dwyer (The Busted Halo Show) enthusiastically reporting on the 2013 announcement of the selection of Argentine Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio (nka Pope Francis) as the 266th pontiff of the Catholic Church. Well, you may have heard that Pope Francis is arriving in the U.S. tomorrow (Tuesday, 9/21). His itinerary will taking him Washington D.C. to New York City (9/24-9/26) and finally Philadelphia (9/26-9/27).

While the cable news networks will be all over it, Francis coverage will have to compete with Donald Trump for air time. SiriusXM’s Catholic Channel, however,  plans full-on around-the-clock coverage each day, including live broadcasts of all of the major events during the Pope’s visit (i.e. mass at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, his speech at the United Nations and his appearance at the World Meeting of Families and the Papal Mass in Philadelphia).

Joining Lino and Fr. Dave in the coverage will be Catholic Channel hosts Gus Lloyd and Jennifer Fulwiler and SiriuxXM Washington reporter Jared Rizzi. Cardinal Timothy Dolan of the Archdiocese of New York will also provide commentary and insight along with (I’m guessing) Catholic Channel Program Director/Fox News contributor Fr. Jonathan Morris.  For more info on the Catholic Channel’s coverage click here.

BTW, while my schedule isn’t nearly as grueling as Francis’, I’m taking a couple of weeks off to recharge the battery while also working on another project. See you on October 3rd.
