With all due respect for a good night’s sleep, I fail to see why sleep is automatically credited as the producer of rest. It’s a bit misleading.

Sleep is a state of unconsciousness or oblivion. Not exactly the best ingredients for rest. I’m only rested when I have a peaceful consciousness. Anyway, some people who sleep a lot, can be real couch potatoes. Restless to do nothing.

On those nights when sleep alludes me, I think on spiritual rest. I struggle to rest my thoughts on spiritual truths of justice and compassion.
