“If you refuse to go shopping, you’re stuck!” says Dr. Phyllis Mendel in my “Spiritual Guide to Weight Lossvideo. What I think she means is that if you depend on restaurants, fast food joints, or snack bars for all of your meals you’re bound to only get a
lot of greasy, over-cooked, high-calorie food. It’s very hard, if not
impossible, to realize your goal of losing excess weight and maintaining
it with such food as your primary diet. Your choices are limited as
well.

If you make a short visit to your local grocery store every day or two,
you can get many healthier, fresher foods. You have a huge range of
choices. You’ll save a lot of money, too. Just getting out of the house
and doing a little walking up and down the aisles will get your blood
flowing. You might see or make a friend in the process.
By shopping for your own food you will naturally, instinctively begin to choose and eat in a
healthier, more conscious way.
Cooking yourself (even if only minimally) lets you totally control your
carbs, fats, salts, and sugars. If everything’s already prepared for
you, then you give up control.
