Did you see the Oprah season premiere show?  The first one of her last season?  It was pretty cool.

It was all about her “ultimate viewers.”  The people who have watched the Oprah show for 24+ years.  She invited a bunch of them to be in the audience.  After the opening, she admitted that her show has always been about “ordinary people.”

John Tavolta, her “favorite guest” started the 60 minute extravaganza.  He’s been on the Oprah Winfrey Show 17 times!

Then they surprised a group of “ordinary viewers” from Iowa with a visit from Gayle King, and then a road trip from Boston to Chicago, and then made it seem like they were pulling into a parking garage but it was really backstage at the show.  The group drove on stage, on live international TV!  A really cool stunt, right?

Then – Oprah famous for audience giveways – topped her own record and gave the entire audience of 350 people an all-expenses paid trip to Austraila.  John  Travolta, also a pilot, will fly them.  (Is he a good pilot?  Hopefully, for their sakes.)

Concluding the show was Paul Simon – singing a special song written for Oprah.  I really love Paul Simon’s music, and I admire him for just being himself.  No hair-dye job and tons of make up.  Impressive.

I’m a big fan of Oprah.  I’ve also done some work with her and Harville Hendrix (Getting the Love You Want).  Oprah’s a very kind, humble, and sweet person.  She told me she considers herself a “school teacher, with a big class.”

Here’s to you, Oprah.  With thanks.  You’re the best.
