I’ve gotten hooked on Kirstie Alley’s Big Life!  Her show on A&E is actually quite fun and entertaining.  I didn’t ever think this would happen, but she’s a delight.

The episode this week is about the hiring of a new intern to help her read scripts.  This has gotten the other young intern/apprentice, Kyle, a bit nervous and jealous.  The new guy is a Aussie hottie, and full of sexual innuendo with every word and action.  He even flirts with the houskeeper!  He doesn’t with gay Kyle, though.  He only upstages him.

This episode seemed to get back to the point of the whole show – weight loss.  Kirstie and her chubby buddy Jim actually are working out again.  They’ve hired a new muscle-boy trainer because they were bored with their old routine.  Jim’s a bit jealous and embarrassed because of his gigantic tummy.  He’s bought every infomercial gadget to reduce it.  What’s shocking is he is using a electric shock abdomen-belt system to get him to automatically flex his pecs!  Oh my.

What makes this series funny is we can relate to it.  Many of us who struggle with overweight and obesity have gone though what Kirstie and Jim are going through.  We’ve tried trainers and tapes.  We’ve bought infomercial specials that promise to magically reduce us with little or no effort.  We’ve tried diets and formulas.  We are there with Kirstie and Jim.  They laugh at themselves, and we join in.

Also, of course, there’s envy involved.  She’s rich and famous.  We’re not, and love to watch.  She has tons of assistants at her beck and call.  Kirstie lives in a fabulous California estate mansion, we don’t.  How many of us see her as a fallen star?  Someone who had or has it all, but is flawed?  It’s absolutely cathartic!

Are you hooked on Kirstie Alley’s Big Life?  Tell us about it!
