Did you hear that didgeridoo on American Idol last night?  It was in the Lennon/McCartney Beatles song “Come Together” by my personal favorite, Crystal Bowersox?  It was pretty awesome.

What exactly is a didgeridoo?  Here is what Wikipedia says:

The didgeridoo (also known as a didjeridu or didge) is a wind instrument developed by Indigenous Australians of northern Australia at least 1,500 years ago and is still in widespread usage today both in Australia and around the world. It is sometimes described as a natural wooden trumpet or “drone pipe”. Musicologists classify it as an aerophone. The instrument is traditionally made from Eucalyptus trees which have had their interiors hollowed out by termites or died of other causes.

Frankly, the sound of a didgeridoo scares me a little bit.  It’s a bit hollow, ethereal and creaky all at the same time.  I associate it with some difficult times in my life.

Honestly, Crystal Bowersox could sing anything, didgeridoo or not, and she would get my vote!

What do you think?  Who should win this year’s American Idol? Please post!
