I’ve been baking some Christmas cookies this morning and afternoon: some butterscotch oatmeal, and whole wheat sugar cookies for decorating.

Always baking, especially for holidays, Christmas cookies are a favorite of mine.  It’s just not the holidays without them!  This year, though, I’m trying to be conscious and moderate.

Instead of a huge batch of dozens, I’m making only one batch. We will all have some but no bingeing hopefully.  There aren’t enough to overeat!

I’ve altered the recipes slightly, too, using old fashioned time-tested, family passed treasures – but using less butter and sugar.

For the cookie-cutter/decorated variety, I made them 50% whole wheat.

Still there’s fat and sugar, but not in artery-clogging profusion.
