Prince William is sharing a rare update on family life after Catherine, Princess of Wales’s battle with cancer.

During an emotional live interview on the U.K. radio show “Heart Breakfast,” William spoke candidly about Kate’s recovery and praised the princess for balancing her health, motherhood and royal responsibilities with remarkable strength.

“She’s an amazing mum, an amazing wife and, literally, our family couldn’t cope without her,” William said during the broadcast from the Isles of Scilly. “She’s been absolutely stunning, brilliant.”

The emotional comments came as Kate continues a gradual return to public duties after revealing in March 2024 that she had been diagnosed with cancer. After undergoing chemotherapy, she shared earlier this year that she is now in remission.

William said he was especially proud of Kate after she recently completed her first overseas official visit since her diagnosis, traveling to Reggio Emilia, Italy, for work connected to her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood initiative.

“She’s been amazing. She’s been through so much in the last couple of years, particularly,” William said. “She’d been looking forward to the Italian trip a lot. And so I’m really glad it went really well.”

The prince also revealed just how seriously Kate approaches her work, joking that she spends countless hours reviewing documents related to early childhood development.

“She spends, God knows how much time now, looking through all the paperwork,” he said. “She’s a proper pro on early years.”

William added that Kate returned from the trip energized and excited.

“I think she came back buzzing,” he shared.

At the same time, William acknowledged that balancing royal engagements with recovery remains important.

“Away trips like that take a lot out of you,” he explained. “So we have to balance that, make sure she’s okay and rested, but she’s in good form.”

The future king also offered a rare and relatable glimpse into life at home with the couple’s three children — Prince George of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales and Prince Louis of Wales.

William laughed about hectic school mornings, musical instruments cluttering the car and even jam-covered fingerprints left behind by Prince Louis.

“It depends, if there’s a guitar lesson, a music lesson, you’ve got to get guitar on the car,” he said. “There’s all that going on in the morning.”

He also joked directly to his children during the broadcast, saying, “Charlotte, Louis, if you’re listening, make sure you’re on time, please.”

The interview marked one of William’s most personal public reflections on Kate’s health battle so far. In recent months, both William and Kate have spoken more openly about the emotional challenges their family has faced during her treatment.

Kate previously described the experience as “complex, scary and unpredictable,” while also sharing that it gave her a deeper appreciation for life’s simple moments.

William’s comments also highlighted the increasingly personal tone senior members of the royal family have adopted in recent years, blending public service with moments of vulnerability and honesty.

Even while discussing family life, William continued promoting projects tied to the Duchy of Cornwall, the estate he inherited after Charles III became king in 2022. During his visit to the Isles of Scilly, he toured a new hospital expansion, affordable housing developments and projects aimed at helping essential workers and addressing homelessness.

Still, it was his heartfelt praise for Kate that captured the most attention — a reminder of the deep bond the couple has built through one of the most difficult seasons of their lives.
