On a recent episode of the “Relatable” podcast with conservative Christian commentator Allie Beth Stuckey, members of “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Roberston spoke about his deteriorating health as he battles Alzheimer’s. Phil’s sons, Al and Jase Roberston, shared with Stuckey the changes they have seen in their father since going public with his condition in December. “I just really believe now more than ever in the power of prayer, and you get as many people [as possible] praying for my dad, and we’re very grateful for that,” said Jase, noting an improvement in his father’s spirit since the new was announced. After admitting he thought his father had only “a few days to live,” he said going public seemed to bring about an improvement. “When we went public with it, I was amazed because I took my son down there and he was like, ‘Well, he’s doing a lot better than I thought.’” Jase stated he thought the improvement was a result of “answered prayer.”
In addition to his Alzheimer’s diagnosis, Phil is battling a blood disease that has left him with “multiple back fractures.” The brothers shared that their father’s condition is “day-to-day,” with some days better than others. Unfortunately, Phil isn’t the only one with health issues either, with the family revealing on their “Duck Call” podcast that Phil’s wife, Kay, had suffered another fall that required surgery. “Kay had another fall, which, she falls a lot. And it was a substantial injury,” said Jase. Jase and his brother, Willie, reflected on what it’s like to care for their aging parents. “Mentally, neither one of them are where they once were,” said Willie.
Phil’s brother, Si Robertson, also spoke about getting older and how his faith informs his reaction. “I know I am gonna die one day…death is nothing but a transfer of where I’m gone be living,” he said, calling it a “change of address.” In addition to dealing with health crises, the family is preparing for a relaunch of its popular show, which ended in 2017. The show is set to relaunch this summer.
