The Princess of Wales has revealed she is in remission from cancer after making an emotional return to the hospital where she received treatment.
“It is a relief to now be in remission, and I remain focused on recovery,” Catherine shared in a heartfelt Instagram post. “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to.”
The announcement marks a turning point in the princess’s health journey, which began in January with the detection of cancer that led to abdominal surgery and subsequent chemotherapy. While the palace has not disclosed specific details about the type or stage of cancer, Catherine revealed last September that she had completed chemotherapy and was striving to remain cancer-free.
Reflecting on her challenging journey, Catherine visited the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, where she had undergone treatment. There, she expressed her gratitude to the medical team and connected with other cancer patients, sharing her personal experience.
“My heartfelt thanks go to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything,” Catherine posted on social media following her visit.
Speaking candidly, Catherine described the difficulties of chemotherapy, recalling the emotional and physical toll it took on her. “It’s really tough,” she said. “It’s such a shock.” She also joked about her attachment to the port used during her treatment, a device implanted under the skin to administer chemotherapy. “I hesitated when they told me, ‘You can have it taken out,’” she admitted, according to PA Media.
During her visit, Catherine also highlighted the groundbreaking work of the Royal Marsden, which specializes in cancer diagnosis, research, and treatment. The princess has been named a joint patron of the hospital, alongside her husband, Prince William, who has long supported the institution.
While Catherine’s remission is a deeply personal victory, she has also used her platform to shed light on the emotional complexities of a cancer diagnosis. In an emotional video last fall, she spoke openly about the impact of her illness on her family, including her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
“The cancer journey is complex, scary, and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you,” she shared. “With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything.”
This personal yet guarded approach has drawn comparisons to King Charles III, who announced his own cancer diagnosis in February. While the palace has shared little about his condition, Charles has continued a busy schedule of royal duties, including upcoming international engagements.
As Catherine steps into the new year with optimism, she is gradually resuming her royal duties, balancing her recovery with her responsibilities as a public figure. Her resilience and openness have already inspired many who face similar challenges.
For the princess, the journey has been one of growth, perspective, and gratitude. “There’s so much to look forward to,” she said, offering a message of hope not just for herself, but for all who have faced the trials of cancer.
With Catherine and William now joint patrons of the Royal Marsden, the couple is committed to spotlighting the importance of world-class cancer care and research—a cause that is now profoundly personal for their family.
