Chrissy Teigen celebrated her first year of sobriety with an Instagram post, announcing, “Not a drop of alcohol in 365 days!” The 36-year-old model and TV personality celebrated the occasion with an honest reveal of her struggles to her many followers. “I drank to end crazy anxiety that later mostly went away when I – get this – quit drinking! sigh. anyhow I feel really good,” she shared in her post. She also lamented some of the experiences she had missed out on due to her drinking, such as falling asleep during a demonstration of how to make a blooming onion by an Outback Steakhouse Chef. Towards the end of her post, Teigen wrote, “While I honestly STILL don’t know if I’ll never drink again, I do know I never want to be that way again.”

The star’s sobriety journey had originally started in December 2020 when she shared that she had read the 2019 book “Quit Like a Woman” by Holly Whitaker. The book discusses the pressures and normalization of women drinking, and Chrissy credited it with inspiring her to become sober. She fell off the wagon and restarted her journey in July 2021. In an appearance on the Today Show on October 26th, Teigen shared more about her decision to quit drinking with the hosts. “’It just started to get embarrassing like at awards shows and things. And everyone memes it because it’s funny and cute, right? That you fell asleep or something at the Oscars. It became embarrassing…” she said.

Teigen is one of many celebrities who have given up drinking within the last few years. Patricia Heaton of the popular show “Everybody Loves Raymond” decided to give up drinking in July 2018. In an interview on “The Heart of the Matter” podcast with Elizabeth Vargas, Heaton recalled a gathering with three of her four sons. She had been drinking but hadn’t thought she was drunk until she tried to tell a joke and couldn’t pronounce the word “tradition” properly. “And my son at the end of the table says, ‘Oh great, mom. You can’t even talk.’ And I was so humiliated in front of my sons, and their friends,” she said. A devout Catholic who has never been shy about her faith, Heaton then spoke about how she decided to give the situation to God. “And I thought, ‘That’s it. That’s it.’ This was literally within 24 hours of me saying, ‘God, you need to take this away from me.’ And it was kind of this perfect way that he did it. It had every element that I needed. It had a logical element, and had this oh my gosh, my sons have seen me drink too much.” Although Teigen is not sure about whether she will ever drink again, Heaton stated her desire to never drink again in her interview. “So, I feel so … That God gave me this huge gift. And at this point, I can’t … It’s this weird thing. I can’t imagine ever taking a drink again. I can’t even imagine it.”
