Police shot and killed a man with an explosive device who took three people hostage Wednesday at the headquarters of the Discovery Channel. The fatal shooting ended four hours of drama at the media company in Silver Spring, Md., outside of Washington, D.C. Police said the suspect James Lee was angry over programming.
Montgomery County Police Chief Tom Manger told media that Lee had a history of conflict with Discovery over its environmental programming and had been arrested in the past for protesting against Discovery Communications, which operates U.S. cable and satellite networks such as The Discovery Channel, TLC and Animal Planet.

The blogosphere hummed for hours as people tweeted updates, e-mailed news alerts and reached out to friends and colleagues who worked at Discovery or nearby businesses.
The hostages were freed without injury.
