Lev Bure, the 26-year-old son of actress Candace Cameron Bure, says an unexpected opportunity to step behind the pulpit sparked a passion that has since grown into a calling to preach the Gospel.

In a recent interview with CBN News, Bure reflected on how God led him into ministry, the lasting influence of his parents’ faith, and why he believes more young people are turning to Christ in search of lasting hope.

Bure said his journey began at Shepherd of the Hills Church in Los Angeles, where Pastor Dudley Rutherford invited several young adults to each deliver part of a Sunday sermon. At just 19 years old, Bure accepted the challenge.

“That was my first opportunity to kind of be in the pulpit with four other young communicators,” he recalled. “That was kind of the start of it.”

Since then, he has continued accepting opportunities to preach, describing it as both a privilege and a responsibility.

“We all get to be part of God’s mission to glorify Him and make Him known to the world,” Bure said. “And we all get to do that in millions of different ways, and I’m thankful that this is a way that God’s allowed me to kind of be part of His mission.”

While he isn’t trying to map out every step of his future, Bure said he would gladly continue preaching if God opens those doors.

“If it’s something that He would grace me with and continue to in the future, absolutely,” he said. “It’s something I would love to pursue. I love to do, and I have a heart for it.”

Preparing a sermon, he explained, begins long before he ever steps onto a stage. Prayer, fasting and spending time with God are central to the process as he seeks wisdom for each message.

“I kind of put myself in a place to be intimate with Him and really just try and receive what He would have,” Bure said, adding that God often speaks through Scripture, conviction and the needs of the congregation.

Bure also credits his parents, Candace Cameron Bure and former NHL player Valeri Bure, for laying the spiritual foundation that shaped his life. Looking back, he said growing up in a Christ-centered home is a blessing he never takes for granted.

“I’ve been blessed enough to be born into a family where two parents love Jesus,” he said.

More than anything, he said, his parents modeled what an authentic relationship with Christ looks like.

“When you break it down, it comes to an abiding and intimate relationship with Jesus,” Bure said. “To see that modeled from a young age is probably the most influential thing that my parents gave to myself and my siblings.”

Bure believes that the same relationship with Christ is drawing many people in his generation toward faith. As reports of college revivals, mass baptisms and renewed spiritual interest continue to emerge, he sees a deeper hunger developing among young adults.

“I think, slowly, the younger generation is starting to feel the reality of this God-sized hole that’s in their lives,” he said, explaining that achievements, social media, money and career success ultimately leave many people feeling empty.

For Bure, that growing spiritual curiosity is an opportunity to point others toward lasting hope in Jesus.

“I’m passionate about people knowing Jesus, and I’m passionate about being part of that mission,” he said. “I think it’s why we as believers, we’re here—to glorify God and make Him known. I’d love to see that grow.”
