Pastor Mark Driscoll’s Trinity Church is preparing for a major expansion after purchasing a $15.5 million building in Scottsdale, Arizona, a move the church says reflects the rapid growth of its congregation nearly a decade after the ministry began.

Driscoll, who launched Trinity Church in 2016 after stepping away from leadership at Seattle’s Mars Hill Church, announced the purchase to members in a message posted on the church’s website, describing it as a milestone moment for the growing congregation.

“This is the moment. Since our beginning as a Bible study in 2016, the mission of Trinity Church has remained the same: We open our Bibles to learn. We open our lives to love. So that lives, and legacies are transformed,” Driscoll said. “God has richly blessed this mission, and our church family has completely outgrown our home. So we prayed, and God answered.”

According to the Scottsdale Progress, Trinity Church acquired the property at 10001 North 92nd Street on Jan. 5. The purchase included a $2.76 million down payment and a $12.7 million loan financed by AG Financial Solutions, a financial services organization affiliated with the Assemblies of God.

The two-story building, originally constructed in 1997, offers 116,200 square feet of space and includes 378 parking spaces. The facility previously served as an office complex and now includes a fitness center and conference space.

In a video announcement, Driscoll highlighted how the new building will significantly expand the church’s capacity and ministries.

“We’ve purchased a big building right off the Shea [Boulevard] and the [Loop] 101,” he said. “Five times the parking, four times the square footage, three times the kids’ space, two times the seating, all under one roof.”

The expansion comes as Trinity Church continues to attract thousands of attendees. Driscoll said the church currently draws about 5,000 worshipers to each service.

Driscoll’s ministry journey has also included moments of controversy and reflection. In 2014, he resigned from Mars Hill Church in Seattle amid criticism surrounding his leadership style, comments about women, and other relational issues within the church. The following year, Driscoll said he and his wife, Grace, believed God had clearly directed them to step away.

“Our plan was to come back as volunteers,” Driscoll recalled in a 2015 interview with Hillsong Church founder Brian Houston. “The Lord revealed to me a trap has been set… there’s no way for us to return to leadership.”

Looking back on that season, Driscoll acknowledged mistakes made earlier in his ministry.

“I’ve made a lot of mistakes, and one of them was going too fast,” he said. “My character was not caught up with my gifting, and I did start too young.”

After stepping away from Mars Hill, Driscoll said he and his wife spent time learning from older spiritual leaders and working to grow personally and spiritually.

“I hope whatever the Lord has for me in the future is that I will draw people and not drive people,” he said. “My empathy level will increase.”

With Trinity Church now preparing to move into its much larger facility, Driscoll says the goal remains the same as when the ministry began: opening the Bible, loving people well, and seeing lives transformed.
