Franklin Graham has addressed the viral letter he sent to President Trump regarding his salvation. President Trump shared a letter on Palm Sunday that the famed evangelist sent to him last October. In the letter, Graham congratulated the President on arranging the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel as well as the return of all remaining Israeli hostages, dead or alive. Graham then turned to comments the President had made about not being “heaven bound.” “Maybe you responded in jest, but it is an important issue to know for certain that your soul is secure and will spend eternity in the presence of God,” Franklin wrote. “The only One who can save us from Hell is Jesus Christ. You can’t save yourself; I can’t save myself. Good works, prominence, success — none of these get us to Heaven. The only way to Heaven is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ,” he affirmed.
Graham went on to affirm the message of the Gospel, writing, “God requires us to turn from our sins and, by faith, believe in our heart that Jesus came to earth, died on the cross for our sins, was buried and God raised Him to life on the third day. If you accept that by faith and invite Him to come into your heart, you ARE heaven bound, I promise you.” He quoted Romans 10:9, which says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” He signed the letter, “As always, your friend.” Graham addressed the President’s post, saying he appreciated the President’s timely post the week before Easter. “It’s not by works, it is through repenting of your sins and putting your faith in God’s Son, Jesus Christ. I think it was appropriate that President Trump shared this truth with everyone on Palm Sunday,” he said. Graham has been a firm advocate of the president, with his support being tested in recent weeks as the President has made multiple threats against Iran on social media. “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F—n Strait, you crazy b——s, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah,” Trump said in a recent post.
When asked about the President’s language, Graham focused on “stopping evil.” “Our President, Donald J. Trump, sometimes chooses words to express himself that I do not agree with, but I support stopping evil to save lives. President Trump is trying to protect the world from a very serious nuclear threat and give the people of Iran a chance at freedom,” he wrote in a statement to the Charlotte Observer. “I pray for him and our military as he leads this nation during a very turbulent time in our history.”
