Even with its shortcomings, NBC’s Today show still rules the mornings in my opinion.

Matt Lauer

No. 1: NBC’s Today: Matt Lauer can be a little liberal and a little condescending at times, but but this is still clearly the best morning show with the best production value and news. Can Ann Curry step it up as new No. 2 host?

No. 2: ABC’s Good Morning America: The best looking group in the morning lacks a little bit of substance and they are almost TOO happy for that early in the morning.

No. 3 Fox and Friends: Lose the rooster crowing and other dopey noises and I might take you more seriously. Brian Kilmeade is terrific and such a common sense Long Island guy, kinda reminds me of , well, me… lol. Leans a bit to the right, which is OK by me.

No. 4 CNN:  Solid, if left-leaning news for the most part, but host Robin Meade’s throaty voice and laugh will take getting used to. I’m not sure if I have that kind of patience.

No. 5 CBS Early Show: Not as bad as it once was, but with so few people watching you wonder why they still try. They had Katie Couric under contract (say that 10 times straight!) and yet never tried her out in the morning. I wonder if ABC will, if her talk show tanks. She may not WANT to get up at 4 a.m. again, but who the heck does?
