Two gay men are reportedly facing stoning in Iran. As the website for the International Committee Against Stoning reports the ultimate (and murderous) form of bullying is nothing new to the extremist thugocracy. What I don’t understand is why the media isn’t shining the spotlight on such reports. The world needs to know what’s really going on there. Our true enemies aren’t Republicans or Democrats. Our true enemies aren’t people of other faiths (including Islam) or of no faith. Our true enemies those of any belief system who brutally oppress and kill anyone who dares disagree with them.

Mel Gibson faces up to four years in jail for assaulting his girlfriend.
Radar Online says prosecutors are ready to file their case against the fading movie star. It’s a sad story for all involved. At least the United States takes crimes against women seriously — even when the alleged perpetrator is rich and famous.  Another reason our culture is worth defending from the likes of Iran.

Conservatives cheer Ricky Gervais.
They enjoyed seeing Hollywood elites get a taste of their own medicine at the Golden Globes. I like seeing liberal and pretentious Hollywood skewered as much as the next guy. But mean personal attacks are just plain wrong no matter which side of the political spectrum they’re aimed at. Some of Gervais’ jokes were funny but some did strike me as tilting unnecessarily toward the nasty. There’s nothing really funny about really hurting someone’s feelings. When Jon Stewart hosted the Oscars a couple years back, he managed to skewer the industry without making it personal. I simply prefer his style.

Regis Philbin to retire. Talking about style, Regis has it. He’s the best at what he does and it’s good to see him go out while his show is still strong. Aside from that, I’ve known people who have have worked with Regis over the years. To a person they they told me that he is a genuinely nice guy who treats everyone around him with genuine kindness and respect. Show business needs more people like him. May God bless his future endeavors.
