This one is no surprise.  If you want your body to burn calories faster, you have to get up and move.

I wish I could just pick the expert with the advice I like the most and give it to you as fact.  Unfortunately, the experts rarely agree on anything, including the effect of exercise.  My favorites said that after a morning aerobic workout, your  body burns more calories all day long.  Others say the aftereffects last only 30 minutes

There is no question, though, that while you are exercising, your metabolism is revved up and you are burning those calories at a faster rate.  The effect lasts for at least a while afterward.

So here is my recommendation: Start off the day with a moderate to vigorous exercise, like a brisk walk.  That will get your engine started — and then take exercise breaks during the day to keep up your speed.  Think of it as putting your foot to the gas pedal.  You are taking a few minutes to keep your speed up.  Your pedometer will help you with this plan.  Keep track of your steps and make it a game to see how many steps you can add in a fifteen-minute break.

If you are sedentary, this little trick may be the key to getting your metabolism into high gear.  If you are already active, you may need to exercise a little more vigorously to get the same results.  But keep moving, and your metabolism will be on the move, too.
