The Great UnReason of 2020—a fitting name, I think, for the mass panic over COVID-19 that has been fomented by the economic and politically-self-interested actors in Big Government and Big Media.

The intellects of the masses of people have been diseased by a virus of Irrationality—what a friend and colleague of mine ingeniously refers to as “COVIDIOCY” and what we may call, COVIDIOCY-20.

The aggressiveness of the tumor of illogic that has corrupted people’s minds can be seen for what it is when we stop and consider that no one who is cowering in their homes (“sheltering-in-place”) has so much as remotely thought about the most fundamental of all questions:

What precisely is it that you think is going to happen to you if you do contract The Virus?

The overwhelming majority of human beings—meaning virtually all of them—that contract COVID-19 fight it for about the same amount of time that they do the seasonal flu and then…recover.

The only people for whom The Virus is potentially lethal are one and the same people—the elderly and others who are immunocompromised—for whom all viruses and infections are potentially lethal.  As Dr. John Ioannidis of Stanford University has said, “even some so-called mild or common-cold type coronaviruses that have been known for decades can have case-fatality rates as high as 8% when they infect elderly people in nursing homes” (emphasis added).

More recent studies from locations throughout the country, based as they are on antibody testing, have confirmed what had always been long suspected: Tens of millions of Americans have been infected with The Virus and never even knew it (More thorough information regarding these studies can be found here, here, here, here, here, and here).

They never knew it because their symptoms were mild or they were asymptomatic (like Senator Rand Paul whose experience with The Virus, not coincidentally, receives few mentions from media carnival barkers whose economic self-interest is advanced through 24 hour fear-mongering).

Consequently, they developed immunity to The Virus. They can neither get it nor pass it to others. Thus, Senator Paul’s recent decision to now volunteer helping COVID patients in hospitals.

Of course, the higher infection rate also reveals that the real mortality rate is by several orders of magnitude lower than the numbers which the Experts cited to justify the oppressive policies that they have since imposed upon the country.

The real mortality rate of The Virus is what Dr. Fauci, along with Dr. Redfield (Director of the CDC), while far away from the media limelight, conceded it could be in an article for The New England Journal of Medicine that they co-authored with another medical expert and that was published at the end of February.   Here’s what Fauci and Redfield wrote then:

“If one assumes that the number of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases is several times as high as the number of reported cases, the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%. This suggest that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively.”

It isn’t just studies throughout America, but as well data gathered from other countries such as South Korea, Germany, Iceland, and Denmark that have determined that the real fatality rate from The Virus is anywhere between .1% and .4%–i.e. that of the seasonal flu.

Up to 50%-80% of all those who test positive for COVID-19 are without symptoms.  And—get this—about 60% of everyone in their seventies who are infected with The Virus are without symptoms! More have only mild symptoms.

Moreover, the average age in most countries of those who die from The Virus is over 80 years of age, and of these, only 1% had no preexisting conditions.

For those who, pointing to the case from earlier in April of the six week old infant in Connecticut who, according to Governor Ned Lamont, was the youngest victim anywhere to be lost to The Virus, would object that “no one is safe,” there is a reply ready at hand:

Not true—and even Lamont had to walk it back when the medical examiner refused to list The Virus as the cause of death.  The child tested positive for COVID-19, it’s true.  But just because the newborn died with The Virus, the medical examiner had reason to believe that the baby did not die from it. The six week-old likely had at least one pre-existing condition.

Nor are stories of other young people dying from The Virus accurate.  On those extraordinarily rare occasions when young people have died with it—and, as Dr. Ioannidis and his colleagues have shown, even in Virus hotspots, like New York City, the odds of anyone 40 years or younger dying from this are so low as to be statistically negligible—they have had preexisting conditions, like, say, leukemia (notice the misleading headline).

So, again, the question must be asked: Those Americans who have been seized by the spirit of fear, those of you who studiously remain six feet or more from all other human beings; wear your masks faithfully whenever they dare to venture from their homes; happily embrace the wholesale violation of your Constitutional liberties, the squandering of the inheritance bequeathed to you by earlier generations of Americans who fought and died for it; welcome the swelling by the tens of millions of the ranks of the unemployed and the shattering of the American Dream of hundreds of thousands of small business owners; endorse the indefinite closing of churches and other houses of worship; and vigorously neglect to physically (meaning really) interact with your loved ones—to you who value your own Safety over and above all else, including your own liberty and the overall well-being of others, some of us ache to know:

Of what are you so afraid? What do you think is going to happen to you if you contract…The Virus?!

Are you afraid of getting something on the order of a bad cold or flu, of feeling like hell, as people feel like hell from bad colds and flus, for a couple of weeks?

Is this really why you’re willing to pay, and force everyone else to pay, the incalculable cost in every kind of pain, to avoid getting a respiratory infection that 99.6-99.9% of those infected survive and from which nearly this many people recover in about the same time that they recover from the flu? 

The foregoing facts in this article should reveal to the fearful that they entertain within their subconscious brains an impression of the dangers of this virus, an impression that they haven’t arrived at on their own but which they’ve imbibed from the propagandists in Big Government and Big Media.

The impression is as far from the reality as Heaven is from Hell.

There is, though, one objection that we must lay to rest once and for all.  It is the objection that the seasonal flu and The Virus are not comparable because we have a “vaccine” for the former. There are two decisive answers to this:

First, the so-called “flu shot” is not a vaccine, for every year there are new strains of flu, and the flu shot is only meant to immunize a person against whatever strains happen to be more prevalent that year.  But even here, the success rate is only about 50%.

Second, the flu shot infects those who receive it with flu viruses.  This being so, and if this is acceptable to those of you who would prefer that we live under oppression until a so-called vaccine for COVID-19 is discovered, than you should oppose with every fiber of your being “social distancing.”  It is only when people are infected with The Virus that herd immunity will develop, its “spread” will truly come to an end, and everyone will be safer.

The truth of the matter is that those who have relinquished responsibility for themselves and others to Big Government in exchange for what they feel (they certainly haven’t thought about it) is a safer environment for themselves are irrational.  From fear of contracting a virus, COVID-19, that has a mortality rate not appreciably different from that of a seasonal flu, their minds have contracted another virus: COVIDIOCY-20.
