UPDATE 2

Two more interesting pieces have appeared concerning the
proposal to build a Muslim cultural center and mosque a few blocks from the
9-11 site. One is a discussion of the Anti-Defamation League’s hypocritical opposition to the project over at
Americablog, especially Abraham Foxman’s justification.  The ADL’s arguments
expose their underlying bigotry and refusal to grant thel respect to American Muslims that are taken for granted by American Jews.  The other,
at Daily Kos, points out that 500,000 New Yorkers are Muslims, and last I heard the First
Amendment didn’t have a clause exempting them. The opponents to the mosque and cultural center are not so subtly arguing there are two classes of Americans, Muslims and non Muslims.

The ‘money quote’ in the Kos piece is:

If all Muslims are to be held responsible for the horrors of
9/11, then all Americans are responsible for every outrage and atrocity
perpetrated by the Bush-Cheney administration–some of which continue to this
day. If all Muslims are to be held responsible for the horrors of 9/11, then
all Americans are responsible for every act of bigotry and hatred perpetrated
by those whose reactions to 9/11 were most irrational and extreme.

Perhaps we Pagans should hold the ADL responsible for the acts of genocide and terror recounted in such loving detail in the Old Testament as well?  I believe those accounts far more blood thirsty and detailed than anything in the Koran.

UPDATE

The Atlantic has an important piece on who is behind the proposed mosque and community center in NYC.
UPDATE 2
New York Jewish organizations are coming out in favor of the Islamic cultural center in the neighborhood of the former World Trade Center.  Unlike conservatives opposed to the center and others pushing agendas unrelated to religious freedom and good will, these people know what they are talking about.  Not that it will stop the lies – but it may strengthen the will of those holding American values seriously and not as slogans.
